"Walking Alongside Your Nontraditional Student: How to Understand and Support Their Career Journey"
Wednesday, July 14, 1:00-2:00pm

Description:
As career development professionals, we need to be proficient at working with all populations, including students who are nontraditional. This presentation will provide data to describe what constitutes the “nontraditional” student population and the unique challenges this population faces while pursuing career readiness. Our approach is to view the student as the expert on their career journey while we, as career professionals, walk alongside them for part of the process. This involves earning their trust, hearing their story, and providing assistance for a small segment of their lifelong career. Through research and case studies, the particular career needs and services for this population will be discussed to provide a holistic lens on working with this group of students. The presentation will also highlight specific strategies for working with students who are nontraditional to assist them with their career readiness no matter where they are in the process.
